The Other Side of Our Business
I want to post something a little different today so that you will be encouraged to take advantage of another website I’ve put together to help you with “the other side” of our business.
What do I mean by “the other side” of our business?
I’m talking about the MONEY potential that the Nu Skin opportunity represents.
Now for most people, the hardest thing about telling someone about the financial potential of our business is knowing exactly WHAT TO SAY and WHERE to begin. Am I right?
For some reason it’s relatively easy to talk about our products to people you meet. But WHY is it that we FREEZE UP and start getting nervous when we even THINK about approaching the subject of MONEY and the financial side of our business model???
I think I know why.
We’ve all experienced a phone call from someone we knew briefly in high school or college, who proceeds to tell us “how much they’ve been thinking about us” and how they’re dying to “get together and catch up.”
So you end up having lunch with them and after the small talk is out of the way, they say something like “I was wanting to get your opinion on something. I just started a new home business and I think you would just be perfect for it!”
So…before you’ve even finished your appetizer, you begin to realize that the ONLY reason they wanted to meet with you in the first place was to pitch their MLM business!
Grrrrrrr!
So…how do you avoid being accused of that kind of misleading behavior? And how do you keep from coming across to your friends and business contacts as “one of those kinds of people”?
Believe me when I tell you, it’s much easier than you think…and it all comes down to a very simple principle.
Do you want to know what it is?
Always be FORTHRIGHT and HONEST.
This means that you will have to (once and for all) forget the old MLM tricks and “bait & switch” tactics. Yes, I was taught all of them at first, and there was a time when they actually worked. But as you know, things have changed dramatically over the last few years and people are simply conditioned to react against you if you so much as try to use them any more!
So…ARM yourself with the TRUTH. The best way you can do this is by being prepared to discuss current events and how they SPECIFICALLY impact everyone you come in contact with.
For example…let’s say you’re talking with a co-worker or friend who begins to bemoan the fact that her rent is going up after the first of the year. Now an old-school MLMer might spout out something like “HEY you need to look at my business. If you just worked it for a few months you could afford to buy your own place instead of rent.”
This type of approach NEVER, NEVER, NEVER works (ask me how I know).
Instead of jumping all over them with your 5-point business presentation, what if you could say something like:
“That’s terrible…and it seems to be happening everywhere. I read just this morning where rental properties are going up all over the city. How do they think they can they do this when 40% of all Americans are now living paycheck to paycheck?…and that’s UP from 31% just 2 years ago. Does your landlord expect you to get a raise at your job to help make up the difference?”
Now, by using this approach, you are engaged in a CONVERSATION instead of a PRESENTATION. You are understanding the situation on a personal level, instead of marginalizing their predicament by changing the subject to your business. Heck, your prospect might even be impressed with the fact that you are well-read enough on current events to quote some statistics that apply to their own dilemma.
Then if they say something like, “I don’t know what I’m going to do” it gives you the PERFECT (and natural) opportunity to tell them about what you are doing.
My point is this – be honest enough to speak up and address your prospect’s needs FIRST. Then be forthright enough to offer your solution that can help him/her with their problem.
“I know how you feel. I’ve been feeling that pressure for some time now and I decided that I had to look at some different alternatives for making extra money. In fact, there was a Forbes article that mentioned how so many people are checking out network marketing programs nowadays, because their models are turning out to be the best alternatives in today’s economy for generating a secondary income…so that’s what I’m doing. And you know what, it’s a whole lot more fun than I thought it would be.”
Notice I’ve also referred to another source (Forbes) that brings credibility to my statements, and most of the time, a conversation like this will encourage a prospect to ask you for more information about your business
