Dangers of Synthetic Scents

Why not just use a scented candle or one of those "plug-in" diffusers to get the desired scents into the air?  Well, because most of those commercially-produced products will diffuse some VERY serious chemicals that are carried directly into your body.  Know the dangers!  Dennis

Natural Fragrances to Scent Your Home This Holiday Season

I still get a kick out of seeing commercials where people walk into a home and “follow their nose” to the tempting scent. Little do they know what they are actually smelling! A 2007 study by the National Resource Defense Council found that chemicals such as phthalates, limonene, volatile organic compounds (such as benzene and formaldehyde) are all key ingredients in many scented products. Unfortunately, regardless of how many pictures of flowers and meadows appear on the containers of these products, these chemicals are easily absorbed by our skin and air passageways and can cause some serious health problems.

The Nasties to Avoid

Phthalates are known to affect male reproductive hormones, cause birth defects, and are a contributor to asthma as well as other allergic symptoms. We are exposed to about five varieties of these per day through scented products. Limonene is a known allergen that is found in many scented products because it creates an artificial citrus scent. For those with allergies, stay away. This chemical will almost certainly trigger some sort of undesirable reaction, be it a rash, asthma attack, or some other allergic reaction. VOCs including benzene and formaldehyde—we have all heard about these. Both are known to cause cancers. Exposure to benzene is known to cause leukemia and formaldehyde is known to cause a host of cancer and related troubles to our respiratory systems.
Knowing these chemicals are lurking behind those pretty pictures, do you think you’ll be running out to buy a scented candle or a plug-in product any time soon? If you want your home to smell like the holidays but would rather avoid the chemical warfare that can come along with it, give these tricks a try for a truly clean and fresh-smelling home with holiday flare.

The Other Side of Our Business

I want to post something a little different today so that you will be encouraged to take advantage of another website I’ve put together to help you with “the other side” of our business.

What do I mean by “the other side” of our business?

I’m talking about the MONEY potential that the Nu Skin opportunity represents.

Now for most people, the hardest thing about telling someone about the financial potential of our business is knowing exactly WHAT TO SAY and WHERE to begin.  Am I right?

For some reason it’s relatively easy to talk about our products to people you meet. But WHY is it that we FREEZE UP and start getting nervous when we even THINK about approaching the subject of MONEY and the financial side of our business model???

I think I know why.

We’ve all experienced a phone call from someone we knew briefly in high school or college, who proceeds to tell us “how much they’ve been thinking about us” and how they’re dying to “get together and catch up.”

So you end up having lunch with them and after the small talk is out of the way, they say something like “I was wanting to get your opinion on something.  I just started a new home business and I think you would just be perfect for it!”

So…before you’ve even finished your appetizer, you begin to realize that the ONLY reason they wanted to meet with you in the first place was to pitch their MLM business!

Grrrrrrr!

So…how do you avoid being accused of that kind of misleading behavior?  And how do you keep from coming across to your friends and business contacts as “one of those kinds of people”?

Believe me when I tell you, it’s much easier than you thinkand it all comes down to a very simple principle.

Do you want to know what it is?

First Look at the Coming Epoch Essential Oils

This photo below was shown in a presentation this morning by Chief Science Officer Joe Chang.  In it you can see 6 of the new Epoch Essential oils.  Four of them are single oils (Peppermint, Lemon, Lavender, and Jasmine) and two of them are blends (Soothe and Energize).  I'm sure you can guess what the blends are to be used for, and if you look closely you will notice that the oils on the right are different.  That's because they are ageLOCed (i.e. include ageLOC ingredients).  Also you will notice that the oils on the right side are labeled (GC).  This indicates that they will be used in conjunction with the Galvanic Spa (more on this later).

How many of these will come in April (all of them, some of them, more of them?) we aren't being told yet.  This information should become public after the first of the year.  In the meantime...spread the word and GET READY for what I believe will be a major boost in our business!

More Than Just "Nice Smells"...

When you consider your sense of smell as being the most POWERFUL of the senses, the benefits of aromatherapy make sense.  DC

The power of aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is based on the use of essential oils to improve health and wellness. It’s a completely natural way of relieving a huge number of health issues and can enhance your all-around wellness even when in prime health.

Think of the soothing effect inhaling a heavenly candle has on your mood. Essential oils are the purest form of a plant’s living structure, the life force and the fuel of all plants. Consider the word “essential;” it is something necessary a plant cannot be without. The oils come from a variety of flowers, herbs, plants, bark and other organic materials, which is why there are endless options.

The fragrant scents used in aromatherapy are extracted from a myriad of plants; in other words, you know where they come from. For some reason people will hesitate to take a holistic approach, yet they will pop pills with 35 incomprehensible letters on the side of the bottle without batting an eye.

With aromatherapy, the specific benefits of each plant are well-known, and you know exactly what you are doing for your health.  For example, the powers of lavender to de-stress and curb anxiety are commonly recognized. Peppermint is known to combat drowsiness and nausea, and eucalyptus is a powerful treatment against respiratory issues.

Although I don’t recommend substituting essential oils for medicine for serious issues, I do recommend you look into the way they can enhance your health and well-being personally.
The aromatherapy compounds travel directly to the emotional center of your brain and can lessen feelings of pain, depression and anxiety with perplexing swiftness.

By inhaling a few drops on your palm rubbing them onto the wrists or the back of your neck, you will begin to understand aromatherapy is more than just “nice smells.”
It is a quick, natural and amazing way to treat your body and mind as the temple it is.

What Does the Research Say About Essential Oils?

Essential oils have been around for centuries, and yet there is very little published research on many of them. But NOW there are scientific studies on essential oils that are being done around the world.  Dennis

Clinical studies are currently underway in Europe, Australia, Japan, India, the United States, and Canada. Many of these studies describe the remarkable healing properties of various oils.

Who is doing the research?

A significant body of research on essential oils has been conducted by the food, flavoring, cosmetics, and tobacco industries. They are most interested in the flavor, mood alteration, and preservative qualities of essential oils. Some of these companies have also conducted extensive research on the toxicity and safety of essential oils.
Although much of this research is proprietary and not generally available to consumers, some of it has made its way into cosmetic and plant product journals. These journals are important sources of information as we accumulate a growing body of knowledge on essential oils.
Most of the studies that have been published in the English language scientific literature have been conducted in laboratories and they have not been tested on humans, but this is changing.

EOs as a Toilet and Tub Cleaner!

Were you aware that certain essential oils can be used to CLEAN and disinfect?  It's true...and they can even be used on the toughest jobs around the house!   Dennis

In the bathroom, most surfaces can be cleaned with all-purpose cleaners, and counters can be given the same treatment as kitchen counters. But toilets, tubs, and a moist environment present a unique set of challenges. Don’t despair. Those issues can be overcome with these simple answers to your bathroom needs.

Toilets and Tubs

Even though the kitchen harbors the most bacteria in the house, that’s not to say your bathroom is pristine. Every time you flush your toilet, an aerosol spray of water droplets, laden with bits of feces and urine, explodes into the bathroom. The bacteria contained in those bits of waste travel as far as eight feet from the toilet, onto your bathroom sink, the floor, and even your toothbrushes. Closing the toilet lid before flushing can limit the spray, but it won’t completely eliminate the spread of bacteria. Nothing is safe.

Modern cleaners often rely on bleach to kill bacteria. But bleach has its own issues. Instead, try some more natural alternatives for a sparkling clean bathroom.

The bathtub cleaners in this section are designed with porcelain and ceramic in mind. If you have stone in your bathroom, such as travertine tiles in the shower, do not use anything acidic on it. Doing so can permanently damage the stone surface. Look for the recipes in this section that are notated as “safe for stone.” Also, be aware that baking soda is a mild abrasive; when you scrub stone with baking soda, be gentle.

Here's the formula for making your own homemade cleaner:

A Beginner's Guide

A beginner's look at 4 of the most popular essential oils out there.  Dennis

Lately it seems like you can’t glance at Facebook or Pinterest without seeing a post about essential oils and how they can fix almost anything that ails you. But what exactly are they, do they work and how should you be using them? There is a lot of information out there, but here is the quick start guide to using essential oils.
Essential oils are naturally extracted from the roots, leaves, seeds or blossoms of various plants. Some are used topically (placed on your skin) because they are believed to have antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Others are more often inhaled (through aromatherapy) as a way to reduce anxiety, respiratory problems and tension headaches as well as relieve some cancer symptoms and treatment side effects.
Ready to give it a shot? Here’s are some of the most popular oils out there:

Well Beyond Their Fragrant Appeal

Just to give you a glimpse into the potential uses...Dennis

Your Cancer Answers: Aromatherapy is a supportive agent for patients

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils from plants (flowers, herbs or trees) as therapy to improve physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Numerous National Cancer Institute-sponsored clinical trials demonstrate aromatherapy is a supportive agent in cancer patients. Researchers have shown improved sleep, reduced in pain, depression, stress, anxiety and in physical and psychological symptoms. Further benefits include improved quality-of-life issues by increased mobility, reduction in blood pressure, pulse and respiration.
Essential oils like Roman chamomile, geranium, lavender or cedarwood are the basic materials of aromatherapy and are natural aromatic compounds. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. If you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, a walk by a field of lavender or the smell of fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. Essential oils can lift the mood, calm the senses and elicit powerful emotional responses. They go well beyond their fragrant appeal and can bring you to a place that is peaceful, balanced, energized and tranquil.
In addition to their beautiful fragrance, essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their therapeutic benefits.
